Specialty Cocktails
Specialty cocktails can be both the best idea... and the worst idea.
We all love the idea of fun drinks to offer during cocktail hour, but there are a few things to
keep in mind when making those selections.
1. Is this drink batchable?
This both saves time in the line at the bar and provides some consistency in the drink flavor and look.
2. Does this drink need to be made precise to a recipe in order for it to be made properly?
Wedding bartenders are often making these drinks quickly and for mass amounts of people, so if it is a drink
that needs precise measurements and exact steps to be taken, it may not be the drink for a wedding.
3. How many special ingredients do your drinks require?
This could be specialty simple syrups, luxardo cherries, fresh squeezed juices or garnishes. Be prepared with
a recipe and the possibility of needing to make or provide those ingredients.
4. Do you HAVE to have a specialty cocktail ?
The short answer here is no. If you are trying to find a drink online that sound fun or you feel like you have to have a
specialty drink because its the "in" thing to do. Nix it. It's not worth the potential stress of finding just the right drink.
If you LOVE a drink and want to offer it, great... its a personal touch that when done right, is done well. But keep
in mind, most guests may try one just for the fun of it then will return to their regular drink of choice so do
not over buy or provide an excess of the ingredients.
